Los Angeles Lakers: How the team can remedy the latest drama

Believe it or not, there’s an easy fix to this situation for the Los Angeles Lakers.

They’re not going to like it, and the chances are that a good chunk of the fan base won’t like the thought either, but it has to do with Lonzo Ball as it’s the only way they’re really ever going to get the full attention of LaVar Ball.

Because it’s so easy for Ball to get attention on his brand without even mentioning the Lakers, every time he does have something to say about the team it makes enormous headlines and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

But what — just if — the Lakers decided to make a stand and draw their line in the sand this early in the younger Ball’s NBA career? What if they really set the tone instead of having a meeting and asking politely, putting Ball on the trade block with some of his other teammates?

The front office has had no problem doing that to other players deemed too immature or too much of a distraction (D’Angelo Russell), and had no issue with even pursuing their stance further after the trade had already been completed and they weren’t on the team anymore.

If it hasn’t already, this line of action should make you really wonder why they’re so hesitant to actually stand up to LaVar Ball.

Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson are both on the trade block and were most recently joined by the likes of Larry Nance Jr. Right now, rumor has it that Los Angeles could be looking to make a move or two before the deadline for guys like DeMarcus Cousins or Paul George.

But why not throw Lonzo Ball in the mix?

A trade doesn’t necessarily have to happen, but how else is LaVar Ball going to take you seriously? Unless you make an effort to mess with his son’s career, he isn’t going to feel obligated to listen to what you have to say.

This is where the blame actually falls on Magic Johnson more than anyone else. Johnson praised Lonzo Ball so much prior to drafting him second overall this past summer, but that has become the nightmare PR scenario that he seemed to think he could avoid.

What’s worse is that if the Lakers are not smart enough to pull themselves together and make a united decision without the influence of LaVar Ball, it’s going to do two things. First, it’ll tear apart the locker room and what still remains of potential young core chemistry.

And then, above all else, messes with their chances of landing anybody worth a contract like they want to offer in the summertime.

This would make you think that it’d be an easy decision for the front office to decide, but they’ll have to make it on their own terms for this to all actually work out.
