Dodgers’ 2020 projected pitching rotation:

  1. Clayton Kershaw (Age: 32)
  2. Julio Urias (Age: 23)
  3. Walker Buehler (Age: 25)
  4. Yadier Alvarez (Age: 24)
  5. Mitchell White (Age: 25) or Kenta Maeda (Age: 32)
  • Questionable: Alex Wood

Some things need to happen for this rotation to from, but if it does, it is going to be scary good. First and foremost, the Dodgers need to lock down Kershaw. He has a player option to opt out of after 2018 and may be sick of coming up just short in the World Series.

However, the Dodgers are young, they are going to pay him a lot of money and he has already created such a huge legacy in LA that is hard to leave behind. If Kershaw re-signed in 2013, after the Dodgers fell to the Cardinals in heartbreaking fashion, chances are he will remain a Dodger.

The noticeable names left out are Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu. Both have a lot to offer, but will not be Dodgers’ following their contracts. Ryu is a free agent after 2018 and has been the opposite of consistent for the Dodgers. Hill, on the other hand, will be a free agent following the 2019 season and will be 39 years old.

The biggest question mark is Alex Wood. Wood was phenomenal for the Dodgers in 2017 and will continue to be great moving forward. However, he is set to be a free agent following 2019. If continues with this level of performance he could be in for a big payday; or, he could even regress. Hence, we played the benefit of the doubt and assumed Wood will walk away.
