So, what about these young guys?

If you do not know these young arms, well, you better get yourself familiarized. Of course, the average Dodger fan already knows Julio Urias and should know Walker Buehler. For the more hardcore fans into the farm system, you will know how good Yadier Alvarez and Mitchell White really are.

More from LA Sports Hub

Alvarez is a flamethrower that the Dodgers picked up in the 2015-2016 international signing period. At first, Alvarez was among the MLB’s elite prospects, however, his transition to professional ball has diminished his value a tad. Still, MLB Pipeline had Alvarez as the 46th best prospect in baseball in 2017. As his control irons out, Alvarez has insane potential.

White, on the other hand, is an extremely fast riser that thrived in 2017. White threw a combined 73.2 innings in the minor leagues last season with a 2.93 ERA and 88 strikeouts.

His high 80’s slider/cutter is a thing of beauty and will be a great out pitch at the MLB level; complimented by a mid-to-upper-90s fastball and solid curveball.

Baseball America ranked White as the fourth-best prospect in the Dodgers farm system. His ceiling in the MLB is a second starter but likely will be more of a third option. In this rotation, he is fifth. If he flounders, Kenta Maeda is the backup option. If he doesn’t, Maeda turns into the Dodgers’ super-reliever.

Then, of course, there is Urias and Buehler. Both of these guys have ace potential and could be the ace of many teams if they progress as they should. In the Dodgers rotation, they are behind the still excellent, 32-year-old, Clayton Kershaw. The biggest mark is Urias, who underwent a serious shoulder surgery last year. However, with youth on his side, he may be able to return and reach his potential.

This rotation is scary good. If all these guys progress as they are touted (which definitely is not a guarantee at all) the Dodgers could have five all-star caliber pitchers in their starting rotation; two Cy Young Candidates (Kershaw and Urias) and another that is ace-caliber (Buehler).

Things are looking great for the Dodgers in the future. Although I still want to see them finally win it all in 2018 or even 2019, I cannot wait for what 2020 may hold.
