With all things considered, this would actually be a great move for both sides and is a very realistic deal that could take place in today’s MLB. Granted, it is becoming evermore difficult to predict what any MLB team is going to do. However, a trade of this caliber, with a similar foundation and key pieces, is more than conceivable for both the Red Sox and Dodgers.

The Boston Red Sox definitely do not need a catcher at the moment, but adding a power-hitting bat like Grandal would be that final missing piece. Right now, Christian Vazquez is a decent young option that may be the starting catcher. Vazquez is propelled by great fielding and a decent bat that has translated nicely thus far in the MLB.

However, Vazquez is still pretty inexperienced. His bat could see a significant drop-off once opposing pitchers figure him out. Instead of hoping that Vazquez continues to thrive, the Red Sox can add yet another big bat to smash baseballs over the short right field wall.

In return, the Dodgers can pick from the Red Sox’ deep pitching staff with Drew Pomeranz. Everyone saw how good Pomeranz pitched in the NL West in 2016 and still has that ace potential in him. The former all-star did post a 3.32 ERA last season after all.

LA needs another right-handed arm in their rotation as Kenta Maeda is currently the only one. In acquiring Pomeranz, the Dodgers can cushion the blow of potentially losing Yu Darvish as well as balancing their rotation.
