Blake Griffin Trade: A Los Angeles Lakers’ fan perspective
By Jamaal Artis
While the news of the Clippers trade of Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons continues to reverberate through the LA sports landscape and the NBA in general. Now seems to be an appropriate time to get a Lakers fan perspective, and by Lakers fan, I mean me.
It’s possible to take a nuanced look at the impact this has on Lakers nation…but this won’t be it.
To “Lob City”, “Clip City”, “Chip City” I say this…Bwhahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!
Chris Paul, see you later! Blake Griffin, enjoy Motown! DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams call the movers because you’re next! Remember when the Clippers were going to usher in a new regime, finally the parade would come down Figueroa clad in red, white, and blue.
Chris Paul was supposed to be lobbing championship alley-oops to Blake Griffin, while DeAndre Jordan manned the paint blocking shots and rebounding titiles. Don’t forget Dukie J.J. Reddick hitting bombs from three point land.
I would be remiss not mention the great coach Doc Rivers who brought his championship pedigree from Boston to begin a new reign in Los Angeles, his Vince Lombardi like prowess led the Clipper to new heights never imagined.
If this is all starting to sound like a fantasy land , that’s because it was. All the promise never came true instead Clipper fans were treated to playoff choke after playoff choke, rumors of infighting and as many lobs as an average NBA team, the Clippers were mediocre when it counted.

They blew a 3-1 series lead to the Houston Rockets, they blew a series against the Oklahoma Thunder losing Game Five by blowing a seven point lead in 49 seconds, they couldn’t beat the inferior Utah Jazz last year.
The Clippers where a group whining primadonnas who lead the league in technicals because the refs got tired of all their whining on every foul call.
They couldn’t stand having to stare at the Lakers championship banners first they had to shroud them in black and then they put up selfies to remind fans that smile is better than a ring.
Clippers and their fans will remind the Lakers fans that they have won the season series every year while Chris Paul was there, ask them how many times they got into the Western Conference. When they start to cry try not to do a happy dance, wait until you’re at safe distance at least.
While this may all come off as sour grapes, to that I say bite me. While the Clippers stock rose, the Lakers fortunes sank giving rise to a chorus of a new shift in LA. After three division titles, three first round exits, constant bickering, and now a sinking ship.

But the reality is there is only one true basketball team in LA, it’s the Lakers. Friendly advice to the Clippers and their fans when you come after Superman you best bring Kryptonite.
