Los Angeles Chargers mock draft: A former Heisman in round two
By Jason Reed
The 2017-2018 NFL season is nearing completion with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles squaring off in the Super Bowl. For the Los Angeles Chargers, the focus is on the 2018 NFL Draft.
This last NFL season was a productive one for the Los Angeles Chargers. While many did pick LA as their dark horses before the season, the Chargers responded from a 0-4 start to finish 9-7 and just narrowly miss the postseason.
The Chargers 9-3 run to end the year was fantastic. For a while, they looked unbeatable. Philip Rivers and Keenan Allen routed the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. They decimated the Buffalo Bills and smacked around the Washington Redskins. Even against the two Super Bowl teams, the Chargers lost by a combined 10 points.
They were really good. Whether it be the result of muffed kicks, bad managing or sheer bad luck, the Chargers’ 9-7 record did not reflect on their talent. Los Angeles easily could have been a 12 or 13 win team. Bold, I know.
The Chargers are so close to breaking that glass ceiling. So much so that the 2018 NFL Draft becomes immensely important. The Chargers need to pick the right complementary pieces to go along with the already solid roster; not the easiest task.
Using FanSpeak’s On The Clock draft simulator and Matt Miller of Bleacher Report’s big board, we conducted a full seven-round Chargers mock draft. We completed one two weeks ago as well, with the results vastly different. You can find the original here.
