Josh Rosen and the New York Giants: A Madden Simulation
By Jason Reed
Josh Rosen is one of the most promising quarterback prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft. In week two of our Madden Simulation series, we put Rosen on the Giants.
Josh Rosen has been an excellent quarterback at the collegiate level with UCLA. With is intelligence, cannon of an arm and overall poise, Rosen has the potential to be a superstar. While he may not be as jaw-dropping as some of the other prospects, he is a sure-fire first-rounder that will undoubtedly land in the top ten.
However, Rosen does not have a practical home yet. Every mock draft on the planet has the UCLA quarterback ending up somewhere else; this year is not as clear-cut as past years. We have no idea who the first overall pick will be, or who the first quarterback taken will be.
Thus, we hopped over to Madden NFL 18 to simulate Rosen on each rumored team that may be interested in taking him. Last week it was the Cleveland Browns with the first overall pick, this week, it is going to be the New York Giants.
For simplicity sake, we started Rosen over Eli Manning to discover how good he really would be. Although our created Rosen had better stats than Manning, in real life, he would sit behind the veteran quarterback for at least one more season.
With that being said, here is how Rosen performed as the quarterback of the New York Giants.
Josh Rosen’s stats: 4,429 yards, 65% completion, 36 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 105.6 rating, 234 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown.
New York Giants record: 8-8, third in the NFC East
Rosen had a fantastic season that outshined his season with the Cleveland Browns (for those results you are going to have to read the story). Rosen’s 4,429 passing yards is enough to break Andrew Luck’s 4,374 rookie passing yards record. His 36 touchdowns would destroy Peyton Manning’s 26, the rookie record.

Rosen was awarded for his fantastic efforts on the New York Giants. He finished fourth in the NFC Offensive Player of the Year and was the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year. Rosen was voted to the Pro Bowl as well as winning Player of the Week in Week five and ten.
In Week Five, Rosen completed 23 of 37 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns. Rosen also added 18 yards on the ground with a touchdown. In week 10, Rosen completed 23 of 34 passes for 329 yards and four touchdown passes.
Rosen definitely benefited from the great young receiving core led by a healthy Odell Beckham Jr. While an 8-8 record couldn’t get them to the playoffs, that is great for a rookie and is significantly better than the 3-13 record the Giants posted last season.

If Rosen is selected by the New York Giants he will not get a chance to match this performance in his rookie season. However, there is no reason that in a couple years a prime Josh Rosen, who was mentored by Eli Manning, can’t replicate these numbers.
