Malcolm Butler

All the writing is now on the wall for Malcolm Butler to leave the New England Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick decided to bench Butler in Super Bowl LII, which many have argued may have cost the Patriots the game. No real explanation has yet been giving by Belichick, so the rest of us are left wondering.

Butler, who is now a free agent, may have seen the writing on the wall to leave the Patriots anyway. I speculated this a few weeks ago; the Patriots only have two-three more elite years in them. Butler, realizing this, may want to leave the ship while he still can and join a great, young title contender.

That young title contender could be the Los Angeles Rams. LA has at least five more title-contending years in them, if not more. Plus, the door just opened for Butler, why not walk through it?

Butler is not as great as everyone thinks he is, but he will be a good replacement for Johnson. Both corners intercepted two passes last season and Butler deflected 12 passes to Johnson’s 13. If Butler can return to his best form, though, he is head and shoulders above Johnson talent-wise.

Right now the question around Malcolm Butler may not be whether or not he stays in New England but what team he is going to leave them for. It could be the Los Angeles Rams.
