Los Angeles Rams: Five free agent options to replace Trumaine Johnson

Morris Claiborne
Morris Claiborne’s career has not been how he, or the Dallas Cowboys, expected after he was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Although that draft class has not translated to long-term success in the NFL, Claiborne spent five seasons with the Cowboys before joining the New York Jets last season.

Claiborne was okay, he just did not play up to his massive potential. In his first season, Claiborne had one interception and eight pass deflections to go alongside two fumble recoveries. That ended up being Claiborne’s best year in Dallas as he failed to play more than 11 games in each of his four seasons there.
However, on the New York Jets, Claiborne played 15 of the 16 games and returned to the form that he was in during his rookie season. Claiborne again had one interception and eight pass deflections to go alongside 43 combined tackles. Not amazing, but definitely an improvement.
Claiborne, like Prince Amukamara, would be a great depth addition for the Los Angeles Rams. Claiborne is good enough to be an NFL starter and is a decent second or third corner option. However, like with Amukamara, if he is the best corner on the Los Angeles Rams there is going to be problems.

Perhaps Claiborne could transform into his full potential on the Rams with defensive genius Wade Phillips. Phillips turned the Rams defense around last season, perhaps he could also turn Claiborne’s career around as well.
