Lakers Rumors: Finding the best possible Lakers “super team”
By Jason Reed
Third-best Lakers super team:
-
Starting five: Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, LeBron James, Kyle Kuzma, Julius Randle (with Nerlens Noel as the sixth-man)
This team is the least changed of the four and arguably is worst in terms of superstar depth. All the Lakers are really adding superstar wise is LeBron James, however, James is so good that adding him alone would have a bigger impact than adding just Goerge and Thompson. At least in my eyes.
However, there is another interesting addition that gives the Lakers depth in the frontcourt: Nerlens Noel. Noel has been targeted as a potential future teammate of LeBron’s that could pair up with him in LA. Noel has a ton of potential, however, his Dallas Mavericks career has not gotten off on the right foot.
The problem with going all-in on LeBron is the Lakers will not be able to utilize all $61 million at their disposal this offseason. James will likely be in the ballpark of $35-40 million, giving the Lakers enough space to sign solid pieces, but not bring in another star.
This kind of move would only happen if James really does see immense promise in the Lakers’ young core. If he did, I would not blame him. Ingram seems to be a sure-fire all-star in the future. Kuzma and Randle have a good chance to be and Ball is a stat stuffer that might get overlooked but is still an all-around asset.
Sick of playing with older veterans that have an ego problem, perhaps James wants to come to a young team, take complete control over the team (sorry Luke Walton) and cement his legacy by bringing a ring to LA.
