NFL trade rumors: How the Rams can land Jarvis Landry
By Jason Reed
Miami Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry may be on his way out. Naturally, Landry’s name will be associated with the Los Angeles Rams in the latest NFL trade rumors.
The Los Angeles Rams have a hole to fill during the off-season: receiver. Sammy Watkins looks to be on his way out and LA may look to use the franchise tag on LaMarcus Joyner. However, a new name has emerged in the NFL trade rumors at the perfect time; Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry.
Landry has voiced his concerns over the Dolphins in the past. When Jay Ajayi was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles last season, it became safe to assume that Landry was also on his way out.
However, that was not the case. Landry finished out the rest of last season, never coming to an agreement on any form of contract extension. The Dolphins slapped an estimated $16.2 million franchise tag on Landry in February. It should have been done there. Landry should have been a Dolphin for at least one more season.
That does not seem to be a set in stone conclusion anymore.
According to ESPN, the Miami Dolphins have given Landry permission to seek out a trade with other teams. Per ESPN’s Josina Anderson, two teams have already expressed interest in the All-Pro receiver. These seemingly should be playoff contenders, as Landry is likely sick of not contending with the Dolphins.
Who those two teams are has remained anonymous. However, I would not be surprised if the Rams emerge as players in these NFL trade rumors. LA does have that void to fill after all and Landry would be an upgrade from Watkins.
Even better — the trade package for Landry is likely going to be minuscule, especially considering past trades of this caliber. Here is what I think the Rams could give up to get Landry.
This trade is a bit unorthodox, I get it. However, looking at some recent trades for wide receivers, it was safe to establish how much Jarvis Landry is worth in trade value.
First, I looked back at the Sammy Watkins deal that landed him on the Rams in the first place. As a one-year rental, Watkins was worth young corner E.J. Gaines (who was replaceable) and a second-round pick. LA also received Buffalo’s sixth-round pick.
Then I took a look at the Kelvin Benjamin trade. Another former number one receiver that was not playing at the same level. The Bills gave up a third and seventh-round pick for Benjamin, not too shabby. Especially with Benjamin under team control for at least one more year.

Only one season is guaranteed with Landry, so despite being better, the return will not be as good as Dolphin fans may perceive it to be. Los Angeles is already without a second and fourth-round pick, I would argue that Landry has a much bigger impact than any third-round pick would have.
Miami is getting a promising talent on their hands as well; Tavon Austin. Reports have surfaced that the Rams are looking to either trade or cut Austin. The former eighth overall pick never reached his full potential and did not do much in the running back/receiver hybrid he was put in last season.
However, the sky is still the limit for Austin and the Dolphins can lock him down for four more seasons. Perhaps in a new offense, Austin can reach his potential in the slot and soften the blow of losing Landry.
With four sixth-round picks, it is a no-brainer that the Rams can afford to send two sixth-round picks for Jarvis. Thus, the Dolphins get three draft picks and a promising talent they can turn around. Unfortunately, that same turnaround is not available in LA for Austin.

And the Los Angeles Rams get Jarvis Landry, a very talented receiver that instantly would be Jared Goff’s favorite option. Don’t blink just yet; the Los Angeles Rams will take part in the NFL trade rumors around Jarvis Landry.
