Lakers Rumors: Is LA still relevant when it comes to landing LBJ?
By Keith Rivas
What if you put the greatest coach and greatest player on the same team?
It seems too shaky to bet on Kawhi Leonard lasting much longer in San Antonio, so would chasing LeBron James this summer be the answer? We can’t rule that out, as the Spurs have a solid pitch that could beat what the Rockets have to offer.
Contrary to joining two elite superstars and risking a clash of egos, going to San Antonio would be more about pairing LeBron James with Gregg Popovich. You have to ask yourself in this scenario why James wouldn’t want this to happen more than why wouldn’t he.

The championship he promised to deliver to Cleveland has already happened, as dramatic as that was, so what gives? If you’re going to finish off the rest of one of the best — if not arguably the best — career we’ve ever seen from any player, wouldn’t it make sense to go with the best coach if that was an option on the table?
That’s where the Rockets, Lakers, and Sixers can’t compare — but the Spurs aren’t perfect.
Given how things between Leonard and the team have fallen apart over the course of the season, James would have to think how things might change if he were to for whatever reason get injured. Also, something he has to probably be aware of next season more than anytime in his basketball life, is how many minutes he’s out on the floor.
If he joined the Spurs, he’d have to be up front about not always being their super hero, as hard as it might be for San Antonio to grasp that. Be that as it may, that could be the turn-off for the Spurs because they’ll be so desperate to move on from Kawhi Leoanrd by next season that the thought of James taking Leonard’s place is too good to pass up.
Especially when Leonard has failed to reach the lofty expectations placed on him.
