Rams Rumors: The best fits for Tavon Austin outside of LA
By Jason Reed
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have one of the best gunslinging quarterbacks in the game in Matt Stafford. Stafford is among the best in the NFL in throwing the football and with the proper tools around him can create something special. He and Calvin Johnson were amazing together, now, Stafford needs all the help he can get.

Stafford does have some notable receivers in Golden Tate and Marvin Jones II. However, after those two, there is a significant talent dropoff to the rest of the receiving core. Tate caught 92 passes last season, Jones 61 and the next highest receiver, T.J. Jones, caught 30. While the Lions’ receiving core is not terrible, the front office should be surrounding Stafford with as many tools as possible.
Bringing in a shifty receiver like Austin would serve great alongside Tate and Marvin Jones. These three could serve as the primary three receivers for Stafford and Austin could provide yet another deep threat for Stafford to sling it to.
Even with a defensive-minded head coach in Matt Prater, the Lions cannot simply ignore the offense. Stafford was good enough to carry this thin Lions roster to a 9-7 record and narrowly miss the playoffs. It is time that the team surrounds him at all costs to finally get Detroit a playoff win.

At the end of the day, even if Austin does not work out as a primary receiver, he can play a big role in special teams. For as cheap as he will be, that is a steal for the Detroit Lions.
