Julius Randle will be the reason that the Lakers land LeBron James

This means the world for showing that they have quality depth already
It still remains to be seen what side of Kyle Kuzma will show up past his rookie season where he’s really thrown his best self out there, but let’s assume that the best of him comes through. The fight for who the starting power forward be will be a fun battle to watch play out, especially because of the fact that it’s important to the team’s success and isn’t hindered or helped by the addition of a superstar.

Let’s also say that Julius Randle keeps up putting noteworthy numbers that can’t just be disregarded — Luke Walton and company would be foolish to think that he’s just doing it for show and tell. Not only is Randle looking to get paid this summer, but it’s clear that he wants to be an active part of success wherever he might end up.
He too has a free agency decision to make, but knowing how much he now means to this team — and realizing that there is a very strong possibility that the lineup looks a lot different with him in it. James is also watching how that plays out, or at least it wouldn’t make sense for him not to, and if this team can continue being impressive down the stretch for the rest of the regular season they’ll have done all they can do to try and lure him in with how they play.
Considering the depth James has played with in Cleveland, the depth in Los Angeles at that point would be way more attractive if we look at that aspect. The reason that this would be a deciding factor in where James chooses to play nexy year is because James wants to play where he’ll have the best talent around him overall.
You could make the point that perhaps Houston or San Antonio have a better quality starting lineup, but the Lakers stand out with the most potential.

And this wouldn’t be something worth talking about if Randleh hadn’t emerged from the shadows to be the best player on this team in the second half of the season.
