The LA Rams are insanely good with Ndamukong Suh (Simulation)

The LA Rams have already added great players to an already great team. Adding Ndamukong Suh would challenge the Eagles and Patriots as Super Bowl favorites.

The LA Rams are not hesitating this off-season. The front office has done a great job at recognizing that this is the beginning of their window to success. These windows often shrink fast in the NFL and most teams fail to capitalize on the few-year stretch they only get ever so often.

Los Angeles has already made the secondary one of the best in football. Pro Bowlers Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib now serve as LA’s first two corners. The Rams franchised tagged standout safety LaMarcus Joyner and are working on extending NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Aaron Donald.

The LA Rams could bring in another star alongside Donald to create one of the scariest defensive lines in football. Former Detroit Lion and Miami Dolphin Ndamukong Suh have been tied to the Rams. Suh and the Rams are reportedly set to meet this week.

This would create a scary defensive line consisting of Suh, Donald and Michael Brockers that would rival that of the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers. This would also complete the Rams’ transformation from an “ok” defense to one of the league’s elite.

We wanted to see how good this Rams team would be with an elite defense and an explosive offense. To do so, we hopped on Madden NFL 18 and simulated one season worth of action.

There is still a lot left on the table, so this version of the Rams with Suh likely will not be the complete picture. The LA Rams are likely going to add receiver depth to replace Sammy Watkins and a linebacker in the draft to replace Alec Ogletree and Robert Quinn.

But for now, we took the current Rams team, with every new addition and every subtraction, and simulated a season. The results — even with the team being incomplete — are promising.

The results:

The LA Rams won back-to-back NFC West titles with all of the moves they made this off-season. Los Angeles finished 12-4, good enough to best the second-place 49ers (8-8) by four games. Ironically, the Rams squared off against the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

And that is where the Rams’ season ended, again. The Falcons defeated the Rams, 17-10, by shutting down the high-profile offense. Jared Goff threw one interception and no touchdowns and Todd Gurley rushed for just 81 yards. Defensively, Donald and Brockers both had half a sack.

During the season, though, this re-invented defensive line put in work. The trio of Donald, Brockers and Suh combined for 46.5 sacks and 36 tackles for a loss. Donald and Brockers led in sacks as defensive ends with 18.5 and 14.5 respectively. Suh had 13.5.

However, with Suh in the middle, he had a bigger impact in tackling the runner for a loss. Suh led the way in tackles for loss (16) while Donald and Brockers both added 10 each.

That is a stellar defensive line. Even better, this LA Rams team will only get better. One of the biggest crutches of this simulation was that Josh Reynolds was serving as the Rams’ third receiver. At only 72 overall, that negatively affected the passing offense.

And, of course, this is just a simulation and should be taken with a grain of salt. This is a fun way to see how good the trio would be but is not completely telling.

However, the LA Rams should still be very interested in bringing in Ndamukong Suh. They have already baked their 2018 defensive cake; now it is time to add the icing.
