4. Los Angeles Lakers

The final, and least likely of the four, fit for Isaiah Thomas this offseason would be in the place he was traded to this season; the Los Angeles Lakers. Although the Lakers are one of a few fits for Thomas, re-signing Thomas should only come under very certain circumstances.

The last year or so has all built up to this summer. The Lakers have been able to free up $61 million in practical cap space to lure a superstar to Los Angeles. Paul George has been in the Lakers rumors since last April; LeBron James and joined the fray. Whether it is one or two, the Lakers are set up for something.

However, there is also a possibility that the superstar could come in 2019. George (if he does not opt out this summer), Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson and Jimmy Butler could all be available. Hence why the Lakers’ front office took a step back and widened the lens to include 2019.

That leaves $61 million of unspent money to use. Of course, some of that is going to go to re-signing Julius Randle. With Larry Nance Jr. gone, Randle essentially played himself into a great contract extension from Los Angeles. Randle will likely make eight figures after this season.

That still leaves a lot of money on the table; that is where Isaiah Thomas makes sense. The Lakers can sign him to a one-year deal, leaving their flexibility open for 2019 while paying him more than other teams would.

Again, this would have to align perfectly for LA but it is not inconceivable. Luke Walton and the front office reportedly want to re-sign Thomas due to the impact he has had on the younger players. Why not on a one-year deal?

Laker fans are still hoping for that superstar, though, and Isaiah Thomas does not appear to be that guy — at least not yet.
