3. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope potential fit: San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are a bit of a wildcard for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Considering the status of their contracts heading into the offseason, the Spurs may become buyers for a shooting guard. Plus, the team should be looking to stock up around Kawhi Leonard and coach Gregg Popovich before the two eventually part ways.

As it currently stands, the San Antonio Spurs have Danny Green and Manu Ginobili at shooting guard. Both do their part and have been wonderful in their role in Popovich’s system. However, all of that could change one the season is officially over.

Green owns a player option over the last remaining year of his deal next season. Green has all the power to opt out of his contact in pursuit of more money or to be on a better contender. With Nick Young on an expiring deal in Golden State, maybe the Warriors offer Green a one-year deal to come win a title. You never know in the NBA.

And while Ginobili did sign a two-year deal, the possibility of him retiring is still on the table. That possibility seems very, very, very slim with the nature of the contract; yet it is still something to consider.

One could go, both could go or neither could go. Regardless, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope would bring a good defensive presence to the Spurs and would provide a deadly one-two punch alongside Kawhi Leonard.

The chances of Caldwell-Pope re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers or joining the Philadelphia 76ers certainly is higher. However, come June and July, the Spurs could sneak in as candidates for Caldwell-Pope.
