LA Rams: Way-too-early skill position projections for the 2018 season
By Jason Reed
Wide receiver:
-
Brandin Cooks:
-
1,100 receiving yards, 10 receiving touchdowns, 66 receptions
Jared Goff’s newest toy will be the best statistical receiving for the LA Rams next season. Cooks and his blistering speed make him hard to cover in any scheme. Whether Goff is hitting Cooks on quick slants or on a receiver screen or on a vertical, Cooks is going to have a ton of success.
Many are pointing that Cooks has played with two Hall of Fame quarterbacks and that is why he succeeds. However, in this offense with other tools to disguise him, Cooks will have arguably his best season to date.
-
Cooper Kupp:
-
800 receiving yards, eight receiving touchdowns, 64 receptions
Cooper Kupp will be close to Cooks in terms of receptions but will be slightly worse in terms of touchdowns and total yardage.
In the slot, Kupp is going to be Goff’s go-to target when the Rams need five or six yards on a third-down conversion. While he still will have big-play potential, Kupp is going to be better suited for that role.
Still, in the red zone, Kupp is going to be a threat and is going to average a touchdown every other game; beating Robert Woods to be the Rams’ second-best receiver.
-
Robert Woods:
-
700 yards, three receiving touchdowns, 50 receptions
Robert Woods was the Rams’ best third-most used option in the passing game last season behind Cooper Kupp and Todd Gurley. With Cooks in the picture and likely serving a bigger role than Watkins, Woods will see his production dip slightly.
Still, Woods will be the perfect middle-man target for Jared Goff; good for about 15 yards are so every reception. With the focus on Cooks and Kupp, Woods will be able to get favorable matchups and will find most of his success on first downs.

Josh Reynolds
-
150 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown, 16 receptions
Josh Reynolds was drafted by the LA Rams last season as a vertical threat for Jared Goff. Although he needed some ironing out, his size made him an interesting over-the-top option for the Rams.
However, Reynolds was not a big asset in the passing game and with Cooks on the roster will likely see more of the same as last year. I would expect at least one red zone touchdown and one big play from Reynolds, who will average a catch per game.

Pharoh Cooper
-
50 receiving yards, zero receiving touchdowns, four receptions
Wide receiver Pharoh Cooper is an excellent return man for the LA Rams. And while he does have potential on the offensive side of things, Cooper will be less active than he was for the Rams last season. It is ok, though, as he will continue to be a great special teams option for LA.
