Logan Forsythe is set for a DL stint according to the latest Dodgers news. Although neither have been explored, two guys should get the call as a result.

The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ season is only getting worse. Replacement third baseman, and usual starting second baseman, Logan Forsythe is set to hit the 10-day DL. The team announced this news Sunday morning and will call up infielder Breyvic Valera from AAA Oklahoma City. This batch of Dodgers news only adds to an already disappointing start to the season.

Forsythe was pulled in between the top and bottom half of the sixth inning after he was seen clutching his throwing shoulder. This is reportedly something that Forsythe has been dealing with since Spring Training.

Valera is a good emergency call up while the Dodgers try to figure out what to do next. Valera hit .314 for AAA Memphis last season and is 6-19 thus far for the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

However, Valera should not be a long-term call-up. The Dodgers are going to need to find talent to bridge the gap until either Turner or Forsythe can return. Realistically, there should be two names on the minds of Dodger fans.

  • Andrew Toles

Andrew Toles is an unconventional call in regards to the latest Dodgers news. Although Dodger fans have been petitioning for Toles’ arrival on the big league roster, pulling up an outfielder for an injured infielder seems odd.

However, the Dodgers benefit from great depth and versatility in the big league roster. Although Dave Roberts has been trying to keep some guys in the same positions this season, he is going to have to juggle the lineup now.

That juggling should start with Chris Taylor.

Taylor is a natural infielder that can help the Dodgers at both third and second base. This gives the Dodgers a four-man rotation at the two positions between Taylor, Chase Utley, Enrique Hernandez and Kyle Farmer. Heck, the Dodgers could even play Taylor or Hernandez at shortstop and put Corey Seager at third. That is highly unlikely but possible.

This opens a spot in the outfield for Andrew Toles. Left field has been circled as Toles’ position, but it is hard to give him that job with Matt Kemp being one of the better Dodger bats this season. Instead, the Dodgers should look to use the speedier option in center in Toles. With Toles and Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers would have two incredible arms in the outfield.

I like the idea of batting Toles lead-off, Taylor second, Seager third and Cody Bellinger fourth.

  • Jake Peter

Or the Dodgers could go the more traditional route and call up another infielder. While calling up Toles may be the more favored Dodgers news, calling up Jake Peter would not be too bad either.

Peter can play second and third for the Dodgers and would give the team a left-handed bat that can hit right-handed pitching. Against right-handed pitchers, the Dodgers could go with a left-handed tandem of Utley and Peter. Against southpaws, the team could turn to Hernandez and Farmer.

This move would require less roster juggling but may not produce the same results. However, with Roberts keeping Taylor just in center, this could be the more likely of the two moves. While the Dodgers may just look to role with Valera for the time being, Peter seems to be a much more big-league-ready option.

Overall, the team is going to have to figure out what to do with this latest Dodgers news. Being five games under .500 and losing two third basemen, the panic button is getting closer and closer.
