Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak selections — April 18
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers escaped another Kenley Jansen meltdown with a 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres in the 12th inning of Tuesday’s contest.
The Los Angeles Dodgers nearly blew another ninth-inning lead of two or more runs against a division foe. Luckily for LA, and Kenley Jansen, the rest of the bullpen locked down to throw 5.2 scoreless innings. Although it was ugly, a 7-3 win is exactly what the Dodgers need to keep the ball rolling.
Now the Dodgers enter the series finale with the first series win of the season, looking to complete the first sweep of the series. Kenta Maeda will take the mound against right-handed pitcher, Luis Perdomo.
Tuesday was a good night for our daily Dodgers Beat the Streak selections. In case you did not know, we are the best one-stop shop to get advice on which Dodger to select for in MLB’s Beat the Streak contest. Unforuntanetly for me, I keep doubling down with non-Dodgers, which is affecting my streak in the app.
Tuesday’s picks:
On Tuesday I went with the leadoff man, Chris Taylor after he went 0-5 the night before. In his first at-bat of the game, Taylor sent a 3-1 pitch on a line up the middle for a single. Five pitches into the game and my streak was secure.
As for Sarah, her pick, Yasiel Puig, had a pretty slow night but did enough to extend her streak. Puig went 1-5 in the contest with a single. Again, just enough to get the job done.
Sarah’s pick (Current Streak: Two): Yasmani Grandal

WHY:
My pick for today is Yasmani Grandal. He’s been hitting like crazy for the past few days but the last time I selected him for Beat the Streak, was the one day he wasn’t in the lineup.
So, whether he pinch hits or starts tonight, I think he is going to continue to make a big impression in San Diego. Barnes made a huge impact in the postseason, which led to trade rumors around Grandal, but he’s proving people wrong right now.
Though this may be a bold statement, I think he’s capable of hitting 30+ homers, especially as a switch hitter.
Grandal definitely had something to prove coming into this season, and though it’s still early, he is dangerously close to proving he is capable of bringing something irreplaceable to the Dodgers.
Jason’s pick (Current Streak: Seven): Cody Bellinger
WHY:
I really do not like the matchups for the Dodgers against Luis Pedromo. Although Pedromo is not an overpowering pitcher, this is the first time during my seven-game streak in which I am entering with some doubt.
However, Bellinger seems primed for a big game in which he capitalizes on a knee-high sinker for one of his signature Belli Bombs. Usually, I play the game of averages to try to find a failproof way to make a selection. And while that is applicable here with Bellinger going 1-6 on Tuesday, he can easily go 0-4.
Next: Do the Dodgers finally have momentum?
However, something tells me that we are going to be seeing the third Belli Bomb of the young season. Bellinger almost launched one out of the park on Tuesday, Wednesday may be the night.
