The Los Angeles Lakers rumors will not stop coming. Now, the idea of both LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard teaming up in LA has been suggested.

The Lakers rumors will not slow down, will they? LeBron James, alongside Paul George, has been long tied up in the Lakers rumors. All season long speculation of where James would end up after the season has been growing; the Los Angeles Lakers becoming a target for three specific reasons.

Although that speculation has since slowed with the NBA Playoffs, it is still relevant.

Instead, another star forward has been caught up in the NBA’s rumor scene. MVP contender and elite defender Kawhi Leonard could be on his way out of San Antonio, leaving many to question where he might end up.

Naturally, the Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers have become targets, simply because they both need a superstar and both provide Leonard a homecoming to LA. For the Lakers, this would likely mean trading Brandon Ingram or Kyle Kuzma. If the Lakers could get Leonard to commit to a long-term deal, trading Ingram and Luol Deng seems inevitable.

And whether or not that it is worth it is dependent on who you ask. Personally, as impressive as Brandon Ingram is, this trade makes sense. Leonard is an MVP caliber player. While Ingram’s ceiling is high, at his best, he will be on Kawhi Leonard’s level.

Leonard is young and gives the Lakers a large window of contention. Ingram, on the other hand, would be a gamble. While he will be all-star caliber, there are no guarantees that he can carry the Lakers to that next level. If he does, the Lakers must wait another four or so years and who knows where the team will be at that point.

That discussion though has opened up the door for LeBron James as well. By trading Ingram, Deng and presumably some draft picks, the Lakers would still have space to bring in James and re-sign Julius Randle.

Even if Leonard commits to a max deal the Lakers could sign James for around $35 million and have enough cap space to utilize the Bird Rights on Julius Randle. All of a sudden, the Lakers could run a starting five consisting of Lonzo Ball, Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, Kyle Kuzma and Julius Randle.

This is all a dream scenario and none of it is guaranteed, but if it were to happen, that is likely how it would go down. As great as Paul George is, this partnership of Leonard and James would give the Lakers their best shot at title contention.

In fact, this partnership of James and Leonard would make the Lakers the best team in the NBA. Period. For now, these Lakers rumors are just speculation, but the idea of the two coming to LA is intriguing.
