Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama

There may be a reason that the Los Angeles Chargers have not yet re-signed Tre Boston after his breakout seasons. The reason may be that the team is targeting a safety in the 2018 NFL Draft to replace him; doing with longevity and youth in an already young and solid secondary.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, there are two great safeties and there is everyone else. Those safeties are Derwin James and Minkah Fitzpatrick. The problem is, though, that neither will likely be available for the Chargers by the time the 17th overall pick rolls around.

Thus, the Chargers can execute a trade with the Washington Redskins, who own the 13th overall pick. Washington’s biggest need is either at defensive tackle or at receiver, so trading down four picks will not hurt their selections. On the other hand, the Chargers would be able to leapfrog the Green Bay Packers, who greatly need a guy like Fitzpatrick.

The Ringer has Fitzpatrick going 14th overall to the Packers. We think he could go 13th to the Chargers.

Fitzpatrick is the perfect ball-hawk to play at free safety to replace Boston. He can succeed at both the line of scrimmage and deep in coverage and would be a great addition to a great secondary that also includes a returning Jason Verrett.
