Angels: Mike Trout is on pace to accomplish a never before seen feat
By Jason Reed
Los Angeles Angels fans are familiar with Mike Trout putting up insane numbers. However, so far in 2018, Trout is on pace for historic numbers.
Mike Trout is the best player in baseball. That became a common consensus just two or three years after the Los Angeles Angels superstar burst into the league. He has it all; a sweet stroke with power, speed, fielding, baserunning prowess, a great approach at the plate. Give Trout an arm like Yasiel Puig and he could literally be complete in every area of the game.
Trout has started his career on a historic pace. The Angels’ outfielder is putting up video game numbers. He is a career .307 hitter, has surpassed 1000 hits, has 213 home runs and 593 RBIs. He has won two MVPs and has been named to six all-star teams.
His fWAR is 57.9, good enough for 128th all-time. This season alone, Trout has surpassed the likes of Ichiro Suzuki, Jackie Robinson, Jeff Kent and Richie Ashburn, just to name a few. Trout is 26 years old. Reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Aaron Judge, is eight months younger than Trout.

This season, Trout has somehow taken it up a notch. Even when we all thought he couldn’t get better, he has an insane start to 2018.
Trout is hitting .336 with 12 home runs and 24 RBIs through 34 games this season. He also has six stolen bases as well as 28 walks and a 1.178 OPS. Trout has played every single game for the Angels this season.
Assuming he stays healthy and can maintain this pace over 162 games, we will see a truly special season out of Mike Trout. If averages persist, Trout will finish 2018 with 57 home runs, 114 RBIs, 133 walks and 28 stolen bases; likely with a batting average at the very lowest, .320.
Adding pieces around Trout obviously has a huge impact as he is producing at his best ever rate. Of course, maintaining this level of production over an entire year is hard. If anyone can do it, it is Mike Trout.
And if he does, we are going to see history. No player in the history of baseball, not Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle or Ken Griffey Jr. has ever hit 50 or more home runs and stolen 25 or more bases.
Trout is on pace, with seven home runs and three stolen bases to spare.
And while it may be a bit premature to get excited about something like this, this would take the 40-40 club to an entirely new level. Trout is on pace to do so with ease.

Heck, maybe we will see a 60 home run, 30 stolen base season (now that is stretching it). Keep an eye out for Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels; you may witness some history this season.
