Different day, same results. The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off of a loss in which the offense looked deflated. Here are our picks for who will hit tonight.

Honestly, it is getting pretty frustrating, but what can you do? The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing terrible this season and the bats are back to forgetting how to hit the baseball. Not only has this become an injury problem, it seemingly has become a mental problem in the clubhouse as well.

We do not know what goes on in the clubhouse, though, and this could just be another slump. However, Dave Roberts and the Dodgers are showing some frustration, some stress that this slow start could force them out of the playoffs.

There still is a lot of season left to play and the Dodgers can turn it around. They are too talented not to. I still would not be surprised if they didn’t.

In what usually is just an article about who will get hits is now an article that often complains about the bad offense. Here are our picks.

Friday’s picks:

Friday was yet another unsuccessful day for our Beat the Streak series, which really should not come as any surprise as the team only has nine hits in two games against the Reds. Chase Utley and Max Muncy combine for five of those hits. Yes, you read that right, Chase Utley and Max Muncy.

On Friday Sarah went with Matt Kemp and I went with Yasiel Puig. Both players went 0-3. Let’s move on.

Sarah’s pick (Current streak: Zero): Cody Bellinger

My pick for today is Cody Bellinger. Though the offense has been pretty unnoticeable lately, tonight may be the night things turn around. The past week or so, Bellinger has been swinging through strikes, resulting in a higher strikeout rate than anything we’ve seen from him in a long time. (He’s struck out about a quarter of the times he’s up to bat this season.)

Then again, looking on the slightly brighter side of things, Bellinger is just caught up in one of baseball’s most prevalent and unforgettable narratives; the three true outcomes. This season, Bellinger has struck out about 25% of the time.

He’s hit a home run in less than .05% of his plate appearances. He’s walked in .08% of his trips up to the plate. So, going by the three true outcomes, Bellinger has been popping out, or hitting for extra bases, a lot this season. In fact, he has two more hits than he does strikeouts so far.

Though things have been looking awfully bleak for the boys in blue, now is the time to turn it around and maybe, just maybe, Bellinger will lead the charge.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: Zero): Ross Stripling

Yup.

It has gotten to the point where I need a spark in this streak. I have done so bad, in large part to nobody getting hits on the Dodgers. Thus, with my streak at zero and nothing really to lose, I am going to go with the starting pitcher tonight, Ross Stripling.

It is not even like Stripling is a good hitter. He primarily works out of the bullpen, so he really does not get any action at the plate. However, with nobody really doing much in the actual lineup, this pick is probably as likely as Sarah’s to get a hit.

Next: The Dodgers are missing half the team

Am I being pessimistic? Sure. But the Dodgers need to prove me otherwise before I invest in the idea that anyone on this team can have any sort of big game.
