3. OF Justin Upton

  • Stats over last seven days: .286 AVG, 1 HR, 1 R, 6 RBI

Justin Upton was literally almost all of the offense for the Los Angeles Angels this past week. With the bats failing to get going, especially Mike Trout (who went 1-18), the Angels relied on Upton for most of the offense.

More from LA Sports Hub

Upton’s six RBIs led the team and it was not even close. The next best batter had two RBIs (Simmons, Luis Valbuena) with four other guys driving in one RBI each. All in all, the Angels offense accounted for 14 total RBIs the last seven days. Upton accounted for 42.9 percent.

After being traded to the Los Angeles Angels last season Upton is making good of the team’s five-year investment they made on him. Upton leads the entire team in total RBIs with 34, is second to Mike Trout in home runs with 11 and is second to Trout in runs scored with 28.

While the nature of his contract may put the Angels in a bad situation in three or four years, Upton has been that perfect power-hitting bat that the Angels have been looking for to put alongside Trout.

Albert Pujols was no longer that guy and Josh Hamilton was one of the worst signings in MLB history. Upton is the guy the Angels have been waiting for and has been a huge piece of their success this season.
