Andrew Heaney tossed an absolute gem for the Los Angeles Angels against the Houston Astros. Heaney was accountable for the Angels last win and was the only pitcher on this list that was rewarded with a win for his efforts. Heaney should have kickstarted a great series against the Astros. Instead, he was the lone bright spot in what was an otherwise bad week.

Heaney allowed just four hits over eight frames while striking out ten Astros’ hitters. The Astros’ lone run came on a third-inning single from Max Stassi. Following that single, Heaney allowed just two more hits and allowed just one more runner to reach scoring position.

Justin Anderson nearly blew the game for Heaney in the ninth inning, which would not have been surprising with what followed the rest of the week. George Springer led off the ninth with a single and Jose Altuve singled as well. However, in between those singles was a double play that ultimately stopped the Astros’ rally.

Heaney is finally coming around after the Angels acquired him from the Dodgers in the Howie Kendrick trade prior to the 2015 season. Heaney is riding three consecutive quality starts and has a 1.80 ERA and 17 strikeouts over that time.

The best start of his young season was enough to give him player of the week honors, at least in our book. Heaney gets the ball again tonight, Saturday, against the Tampa Bay Rays; who are experimenting by starting reliever Sergio Romo.
