Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak selections — May 23
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers enter the rubber match of a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies with a chance to move to 3.5 games back.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a huge rubber match with the Colorado Rockies tonight that can potentially move the team to just 3.5 games back of the division lead.
For a year that has been so troubling, the chance to only be 3.5 games out is huge for the Dodgers to perhaps spark some momentum in the ball club. This is when the Dodgers typically get hot, it is time for them to do it once more.
Throughout it all, from the dreadful losing streaks to this newfound confidence, we have been running our Dodgers Beat the Streak series. And much like the Dodgers, we have struggled. However, unlike the Dodgers, we are not really heating up.
Last night I went with Justin Turner, who was hitless in the two games prior. Despite being pretty cold, Turner delivered with a first-inning double that ultimately resulted in Matt Kemp driving him in for the first run of the game. While that was Turner’s only hit, it was enough to get me on the board.
Sarah also benefitted from this first inning run as she went with the red-hot Matt Kemp, who obviously drove Turner in with a single. Kemp did not stop there, though, as he had yet another multi-hit night, going 2-4.

Sarah’s pick — Current streak 1: Justin Turner
My pick for tonight’s finale against the Rockies is Justin Turner. Turner has been hot ever since returning to the lineup but has yet to hit his first homer. Tonight the Dodgers face Kyle Freeman’s, who has a 3.17 ERA and a 4-4 record this year. The Dodgers will send a similar pitcher to the mound in Kenta Maeda.
Turner has home run potential, that’s something we’re all well aware of, but he’s been playing small ball, and taking advantage of bad defensive plays, more than he did last season. That’s definitely an advantage for the Dodgers, but Turner is bound to start hitting it out of the park soon.
Jason’s pick — Current streak 1: Enrique Hernandez
The Dodgers are facing a southpaw tonight so Enrique Hernandez is getting the start in center field. Hernandez obviously excels against left-handed pitching and has some of the best power on the team; when he can take advantage of it.
Hernandez often scores runs and has big nights in chunks. While he is not consistent throughout the year, he has these games sprinkled in where he looks like an absolute world beater. Tonight feels like one of those nights where he hits two home runs and plays a huge role in the Dodgers’ victory.
Next: As the Dodgers win, Machado makes more sense
Hernandez is a career 2-7 hitter against Kyle Freeland. While it is not the best track record, we can also view it as Hernandez is due for a big night. Which, hopefully, he is.
