Brent Celek

With Zach Ertz taking over as the full-time, primary tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles, Brent Celek saw a much smaller role last season than he is used to. Despite that, the veteran tight end can still contribute to an NFL team and may bring the kind of leadership that this Los Angeles Chargers team needs.

More from LA Sports Hub

The last two seasons have not been great for Celek as he has taken a backseat to Ertz in Philadelphia. Over the last two years, Celek has a combined 285 receiving yards on 27 receptions for just one touchdown.

I know what you are saying, that is not the same kind of production that Hunter Henry puts up and is nowhere close to a suitable replacement.

However, on a one-year deal, Celek is a risk worth taking. At the very least, he can be another good blocker for the Chargers to utilize to increase Melvin Gordon’s production. At his best, Celek can be a threat on all downs for mid-yardage situations.

While Celek’s best years are behind him, he still is capable of 400 or so receiving yards and at least four touchdowns in the Chargers’ system. For a team that does not rely too heavily on the tight end, that is about all you can ask for out of a replacement for Hunter Henry.

However, there still is one more guy that makes a ton of sense for the Chargers to sign.
