LA Rams should consider signing former Chargers safety Tre Boston
By Jason Reed
Tre Boston had a great season for the Los Angeles Chargers last year and remains unsigned. To add secondary depth, the LA Rams should take a look at Boston.
The LA Rams have done just about everything to bolster an already stellar lineup. In the front office’s pursuit, the Rams have become a legitimate Super Bowl-caliber team and a pretty great candidate to be the NFL’s juggernaut team over the next several seasons.
A young core mixed with key veteran additions has turned the Rams into the perfect recipe for success, at least on paper. Of course, there is always the chance the team does not work out. In this case, though, that chance seems minimal.
One of the few somewhat thin areas of the team (if you can even call it that) is at safety. And even though that may be one of the thinnest parts of the roster, the Rams would be just fine heading into the season with the safety duo the team currently has.
Franchise tag recipient LaMarcus Joyner and 2017 NFL Draft pick John Johnson currently man the two starting safety positions in LA. Joyner is an above average safety that earned the tag and Johnson played better than expected and is a decent starting option.

While the LA Rams would be fine heading into the season, it does not mean the team should avoid a chance to improve.
That improvement should be former Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers safety Tre Boston on a one-year deal.
Signing Boston on a one-year deal would allow the front office to maintain flexibility to hopefully re-sign Aaron Donald after this season. Somehow (perhaps due to past political stance) Boston is still available, so of course, he would take a one-year deal from a contending team.
The fact that Boston is still available in the first place is bewildering. Yes, the Chargers drafted Derwin James, so that is understandable. However, Boston would make even the best defenses in the NFL better.
Last season, his first full season as a starter, Boston had five interceptions, eight pass deflections and 79 total tackles.
His numbers are up there with some of the best safeties in the game. Adding him in the secondary alongside Joyner, Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters would be deadly. Boston has the ball-hawking mentality that makes a defensive back successful in this league. Under Wade Phillips, Boston can shine as one of the best safeties in the NFL.

And while the buzz around NFL free agency is now faded, it would be huge news if the LA Rams landed Tre Boston.
