3. Chris Paul’s bad playoff track record would not mesh with LeBron James

I absolutely hate buying into cliches in sports yet I am absolutely buying into this cliche with Chris Paul. Paul has not made it to a single NBA Finals and it took him 13 seasons to get past the Conference Semi-Finals.

More from LA Sports Hub

For someone that is supposed to be the best point guard of this generation, there has to at least be one Finals appearance in there. Heck, Dwight Howard even has a Finals appearance, Dirk Nowitzki has a Finals win, even James Harden and Russell Westbrook have been to the Finals.

Some of it has been his fault, some of it has been bad injury luck to himself and some of it has been bad injury luck to his teammates. However, Paul has been handed quite a few excellent teams in his day and still has not made a run.

Sure, he came up against the Golden State Warriors, perhaps the best team in basketball history, while on the Houston Rockets. And yet still, the Rockets were one ice cold game away from probably winning an NBA Championship.

However, Paul was also a member of the Lob City Clippers in a time when they were easily the most talented team in the Western Conference. That was when Paul was at his best — when he was in his prime. He still never made it out of the second round.

While LeBron and Paul may be talented enough to make it to the Finals, at this stage in his career, LeBron needs a younger star that can take some of the workload off of his shoulders during a playoff push. There is no reason he should have to play all 48 minutes because he does not have a reliable second option.

And despite being one of the best point guards of all-time, Chris Paul has not consistently proven to be that guy.
