The ten best teams in Los Angeles Dodgers history
By Jason Reed
1. 1955: 98-55 (Won World Series)
The Brooklyn Dodgers won their first ever World Series in 1955, which was also the only World Series the team won in Brooklyn. Not only was it the first and only in Brooklyn, that season still, to this day, gave us the best team in Dodgers history.
The 1955 Dodgers have the fifth-best winning percentage since the team changed the name to the Dodgers and in a 162-game season would have amounted for 104 wins, the same amount as the 2017 Dodgers.

Unlike the 2017 Dodgers, though, the 1955 Dodgers walked away with a win in game seven of the World Series to capture their first-ever title. Not only was this a huge milestone for a team that has constantly been the little brother of New York teams, it was a huge statement as the Dodgers finally overcame the New York Yankees in the World Series.
The Dodgers may have swept the Yankees in the World Series eight years later as well as defeat them in in 1981 yet neither come close to the seven-game battle that the Dodgers overcame in 1955. This was like the Cubs breaking the 108-year curse. The Yankees were the Dodgers’ curse and they finally overcame that.
This team boasts a collection of Hall of Famers similar to the 1953 Dodgers that fell short. Those included are:
- Duke Snider
- Jackie Robinson
- Roy Campanella
- Carl Furillo
- Gil Hodges
- Pee Wee Reese
- Jim Gilliam
- Don Newcombe

Unless the Dodgers get red-hot this year and win over 100 games and win the World Series, the 1955 Dodgers will stand as the best team in franchise history.
