Los Angeles Rams NFC West Ranking: Running backs
By Jason Reed
1. Los Angeles Rams
- Running back depth chart: Todd Gurley, Malcolm Brown, John Kelly
The Los Angeles Rams, led by Todd Gurley, just narrowly edged out David Johnson and the Cardinals for the best running game in the NFC West. After finishing second in our quarterback ranking, the Rams thus far look like the NFC West’s most impressive team.

Gurley played so good last season that he officially put himself in the best running back in football conversation and inserted himself on the same level as Johnson and Le’Veon Bell. Gurley was so good last season that he received MVP votes and won the Offensive Player of the Year award.
He was the only running back in football to have over 2000 yards from scrimmage as well.
However, Johnson has pieced together several years of this elite production which seemingly would give him the nod over Gurley. However, with Malcolm Brown and John Kelly behind him, the Los Angeles Rams obviously have the most wholesome running back unit in the division.
Brown is a great second running back option and should be good when Gurley needs to take a break or is acting as a decoy in the passing game. Kelly is a rookie but has a ton of upside and could be one of the best late-round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
It was close, but the Los Angeles Rams do enter the year with the best running back unit in the division. Hopefully, Gurley can continue his success and not have a bad season as he did in his sophomore year.

The chances of that are slim under head coach Sean McVay, though. As long as Gurley plays like he did last season, he not only will become the best running back in the NFL but will be a surefire front-runner for MVP.
