Los Angeles Angels: Should the team buy or sell at the deadline?
By Jason Reed
The case for the Los Angeles Angels to be buyers:
The Los Angeles Angels (49-48) have been mired in mediocrity the past couple of seasons and this season is no different. Consistency in their play and most importantly, consistency in winning has eluded them more often than not. Hovering around the .500 mark the last couple of weeks, the Angels have put themselves in a tough position. However, it is not an impossible one.
The Angels are currently nine games behind the division rival Seattle Mariners. Factor in that the Angles have not been to the postseason since 2014, and there should be a sense of urgency to get this team back to experience the postseason. The Angels should do whatever they can to get back to the playoffs.

The main advantage they have now is that they have several divisional games coming up. Their first three games off the All-Star Break are against the division-leading Houston Astros and there an additional three against the Mariners after a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox.
This team must start winning their series of divisional games if they hope to turn things around. Divisional games can help the Angels make up ground quickly and effectively.
If they can win four of the six against Seattle and Houston, I think things will start looking up for them. By no means will it be easy as both teams are ahead of them in the division, but wins against these teams will give them a chance to achieve their playoff goal. They are by no means out of contention.
Another reason that I think the Angels should be buyers is to possibly keep Mike Scioscia around a while longer. The Angels should see what he can do with an additional hitter that can help Mike Trout or an ace in the infield on defense.
Scioscia has been the Angels’ manager for nearly two decades and if they want to see if he can push his team toward the playoffs, now is the time to give him more options and different players to work with.
