Although the Los Angeles Clippers are not title contenders next season, the team will showcase one of the best, deepest backcourts in all of basketball.

The Los Angeles Clippers are in a weird in-between phase of the franchise. Los Angeles is certainly talented enough to be a playoff team. However, Los Angeles has no real shot at making it past the first round of the playoffs against the best teams in the Western Conference.

If the Clippers were in the Eastern Conference the team would easily be a sixth or seventh seed without fail. If Los Angeles added just one mid-level star (someone like Paul George) they would have the pieces to be true title contenders in the East.

However, the Clippers are in the tough Western Conference and enter the year on the outside looking in. The Warriors, Rockets, Lakers, Trail Blazers, Nuggets, Thunder, Pelicans, Timberwolves and Jazz are all arguably better than Los Angeles.

However, what the Clippers will have to look forward to next season is a very promising backcourt. While it may not be as elite talent-loaded as a team like the Warriors or Trail Blazers, it will still be one of the most promising and deepest in basketball.

Los Angeles simply has so many different outlooks to look forward to that any combination is lethal. While another guard still may be dealt, what the Clippers currently have will be special.

The newest additions to the backcourt is rookies Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jerome Robinson. Gilgeous Alexander is a very promising, explosive guard that has the blueprint to finish as a Rookie of the Year finalist.

Robinson will be a great role player that will be a great catch and shoot scorer right away that, if he develops more tools, can be a great all-around player.

The Los Angeles Clippers are going to have a great 1-2 punch at shooting guard with Robinson and Williams. Williams is obviously the more advanced player but Robinson can learn from Williams and craft his game in a similar manner.

Williams is one of the sixth men in the league. While he may not be the sixth man next year, he should be flirting with an all-star appearance.

Not only do the Clippers have athleticism and scoring in the backcourt, the team has two elite defenders at guard. Patrick Beverley and Avery Bradley are two of the best defending guards in the league. Having a combination of either of the two in the lineup should help limit the damage from teams with elite guards.

While the Clippers may still be a few pieces away from true contention, LA is still going to be very fun to watch next season, especially in the backcourt.

The Los Angeles Clippers have established a good foundation to build on in the future. Now it is just a matter of making the right complimentary moves.
