3. Who is going to emerge as the second option behind Todd Gurley

The Los Angeles Rams definitely have one of the best problems a team can have. Los Angeles has so many quality running backs that the backup job is really up for grabs and whichever way the team goes is going to be a great way.

Of course, even if the team did not have this problem it still has one of the best running backs in the league in Todd Gurley. Heck, Gurley is already making strides to become the best running back in the game and may take that title from Le’Veon Bell after next season.

Right now, the Rams look to be using Malcolm Brown as the main back up to Gurley, which makes the most sense off the bat. Brown is the only backup option that has previous experience on the Los Angeles Rams, so he gets the benefit of the doubt heading into the preseason.

However, behind him are two solid options in John Kelly and Nick Holley.

Kelly was a standout back for Tennessee and really could have had a better stock if he did not have to share snaps with Alvin Kamara. Just like Kamara, though, Kelly could emerge as one of the best sleeper running backs in the draft and will be a nice piece to put in a two-back set alongside Gurley.

The Rams are also taking a risk on Holley, who is pretty much fighting for a roster spot. Los Angeles converted Holley from a wide receiver to a running back and are looking to do with him what the team did with Tavon Austin.

Kelly and Brown are the two most obvious backs fighting for the job but Holley could easily throw himself in the mix as well. With Gurley’s health a priority, these three backs are going to see a ton of playing time in the preseason.

And with that playing time, a true backup running back will emerge from the ranks. Regardless who it is, the Rams are going to be in wonderful shape.
