3. If the Los Angeles Chargers make the playoffs, Philip Rivers will be the MVP

Yes, this is about as bold as it gets. We cannot just go around and proclaim that any good player that puts together a good season is going to be the Most Valuable Player. As crazy as it may seem, this is not a long shot for Rivers and if the rest of the Chargers can deliver, Rivers will receive some nice hardware.

More from LA Sports Hub

If the Chargers would have been 13-3, which the team easily could have been, then Rivers would have been one of the front-runners for the award and probably would have received some votes for the award; the only votes going to winner Tom Brady and Offensive Player of the Year, Todd Gurley.

It is not a written rule that an MVP has to make the postseason but it has practically become something that is necessary to walk away with the award. Only two players in the history of the NFL have won the MVP and missed the postseason; the last being OJ Simpson on the Buffalo Bills in 1973.

Thus, if Rivers leads the league in passing yards and crosses the 30 mark for touchdowns, and the Chargers are one of the best teams in the league, it is going to be hard to deny the award.

Plus, MVP awards today always have a bit of narrative alongside them. Rivers leading the Chargers to a record nobody saw coming is a great narrative to get him some extra MVP votes.

The bottom line is that if the Chargers play as good as the team is capable of than Philip Rivers will be the MVP next season. Remember this article.
