Southeast Division

Atlanta Hawks: 2-0

The Southeast Division is also fairly weak, showcasing how weak the Eastern Conference is compared to the Western Conference. The Atlanta Hawks are a rebuilding team undergoing a transition under Trae Young. Two easy wins for the Lakers.

Charlotte Hornets: 2-0

The Charlotte Hornets are such a mess financially that trumps what is going on out on the court. While the Hornets definitely do possess some talent, the Lakers have the obvious edge and should win both games.

More from LA Sports Hub

Miami Heat: 1-1

The Miami Heat are a tough, gritty team that is going to cause some trouble with the Lakers’ young core. On paper, the Lakers should probably win both of these games. However, due to their determination and grit, the Heat will beat their former player on their home court next season.

Orlando Magic: 2-0

For this explanation, you can essentially re-read the entire segment for the Atlanta Hawks, minus Young. Orlando is a team in a rebuilding phase and the Lakers are on the way up. This should be two easy victories for the Lakers.

Washington Wizards: 1-1

The Washington Wizards have one of the most talented backcourts in basketball yet never really utilize it to its full potential. Even without continued playoff success, the Wizards are a tough team to beat and are going to come away with a victory on home court against the Lakers.

Overall record vs. Southeast Division: 8-2; Overall record vs. Eastern Conference: 21-9; Overall season record: 51-31

Fifty-one wins seem right on the mark for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Cleveland Cavaliers won 50 games last season, and while this Lakers team is better, it plays more games against the Western Conference. This will likely be good for a third or fourth seed in the conference.
