Top tier:

This tier has four position sets as we could not include another in the middle tier; it seemed like it would have been a robbery if we included any of these positions in anything but the top tier of our list.

4. Wide receivers

Some may disagree with this but the fact of the matter is that the Los Angeles Chargers have one of the deepest and most talented receiving corps in the entire league. What other team has four legitimate passing threats just in the receiving corps alone?

Keenan Allen is the star of it all and is easily a top-five wide receiver in the NFL. Next to him is Tyrell Williams, one of the best deep slot options in the league and Rivers’ favorite target on deep bombs.

Travis Benjamin would be the second-best receiver on most NFL teams but is the fourth-best receiver on the Chargers. Finally, the x-factor, Mike Williams. Williams was the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and has his rookie year ruined to injury. This season he will be special.

3. Cornerbacks

The cornerbacks may have secured the second spot on this list if Jason Verrett was healthy and back to full speed this season. However, that is not the case as Verrett will miss the entire season and likely end his Charger career.

However, the Chargers’ cornerbacks are led by a top-five corner in the league in Casey Hayward. Desmond King was great in his rookie season last year and Trevor Williams is about as good as you can get as a third cornerback option.

2. Offensive line

The offensive line may be the most slept on position on the entire roster, especially with the team’s past of having one of the worst offensive lines in the league.

However, the team has two solid tackles in Russell Okung and Joe Barksdale, a new Pro Bowl center in Mike Pouncey and a deep four-guard set of Scott Quessenberry, Spencer Pulley, Dan Feeney and 2017 second round pick, Forrest Lamp.

At full health, not only is this offensive line the second-best position on the Chargers, it could be the best offensive line in the NFL.

1. Defensive line

This may be a little high to some as the interior of the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive line is right around average with the NFL. However, the exterior of the defensive line is so good that it makes it the best position set on the team.

Corey Liuget (who is serving a four-game suspension to start the year), Brandon Mebane and Justin Jones are the top three defensive tackles for the Chargers. That is a good, not great, unit.

Next. Bold predictions for Joey Bosa. dark

However, the duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram is easily the best exterior combo in the league and is arguably a better duo than Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh. Bosa is the best defensive end in the league and will be a favorite for Defensive Player of the Year while Ingram is easily a top five, maybe even top three, defensive end.
