Dodgers: Surprise September call-ups that could have an impact
By Jason Reed
RHP Dustin May
Dustin May is the least likely of these three to get the call but has shot up the Dodgers’ ranks in terms of value this season and could be viewed as an option to give the team some relief in the bullpen during the dog days of September.

May started the season as a decently touted prospect before thriving with the Quakes and becoming the fourth-best prospect on the Dodgers. May was included in the trade talks for Manny Machado, however, the Dodgers were able to get the deal done without needing to deal the six-foot-six right-hander.
Following the trade deadline, May was called up to AA Tulsa where he has overcome a slow start to post a respectable line. In 22.1 innings pitched in AA, May has a 2.82 ERA with 19 strikeouts.
May has only gotten better as the season has gone on and he has become more comfortable trusting his stuff against professional hitters. He still has a lengthy frame to grow into and could touch the high nineties on a consistent basis if he is brought in as a reliever.
The chances are slim as May is set to turn 21 at the beginning of the month, which is a bit young for a September call-up. However, we have seen the team call-up fellow young pitchers in Dennis Santana and Caleb Ferguson, the front office should not be too scared of giving May a shot.
He likely will not make the postseason roster at this age but very well could have a positive impact in September; especially for a bullpen that needs innings.
