3. It makes the Golden State Warriors worse
This reason may seem trivial but it is important to keep in mind; signing Klay Thompson would not only improve the Los Angeles Lakers but will significantly worsen the Golden State Warriors.

Thompson’s impact on the Warriors is often understated as he gets overlooked due to playing alongside both Curry and Durant. However, Thompson does have a huge impact on the Warriors and the team would be hurt by losing his presence.
Thompson, alongside Draymond Green, is the defensive glue of the Warriors and is a huge asset when the team is playing against two stars that can score. Not only that, he takes the pressure off of Durant and Curry by being one of the best catch and shoot guys in the league and is a huge off-ball headache for opposing defenses.
Plus, just due to Thompson’s nature as a player, he seems to be a guy that everyone loves in the locker room that really brings the team together. While the Warriors would still have two of the best players in the league in Durant and Curry, the team would be missing that extra something out of Thompson.
And there is no guarantee that the Warriors would even still have Durant. Durant still has a player option on his contract next season. If Thompson leaves, Durant may see the chips begin to fall and may take his talents elsewhere.
What the fallout would be of Thompson signing with the Lakers is unclear, there are too many variables. However, what is clear is the obvious fact that the Warriors would be worse off without him.
With the Warriors being the NBA’s juggernaut and the Los Angeles Lakers’ biggest competition in the West, signing Thompson off of them would be a massive move.
