Los Angeles Lakers: The two ways to trade for Anthony Davis
By Jason Reed
2. Trade for Davis in the 2020 offseason
This is the more likely way in which the Los Angeles Lakers could acquire Anthony Davis, which means Laker fans better be patient in bringing in the brow. However, waiting this long would allow the team to also sign Klay Thompson to give the Lakers the big three that would undoubtedly lead to NBA Championships.

At this point, LeBron would have two more years on his deal, Thompson would likely have three and Davis would have one. The Lakers could make this trade to groom Davis to be the next superstar to take over after LeBron and win titles with Thompson.
Heck, with Bird Rights and the evergrowing cap perhaps James even sticks around another two or so years to win up to four titles with this group.
Regardless, Davis would have to agree to an extension for this to really be worth it as trading for just one season of his services would be pointless. It would also take an agreement with a current player to get the deal done.
The Los Angeles Lakers would have to work out a sign and trade deal with Brandon Ingram that puts his contract close to Anthony Davis’ to make this trade possible. By this time, Ingram could be a star and would receive more money in this regards than he would as a restricted free agent.
While Ingram will be a star, it is hard to see his star power matching Anthony Davis’ this early on and would be an immediate upgrade for LA. Since the team would already have Thompson under contract and Ingram is an existing player, it is conceivable for the three to play together in this scenario.
Quite frankly, with the Lakers buying out Luol Deng, the chances of making a deal for Anthony Davis are not as likely as they were before. However, the signs are there that Davis may have interest in eventually joining LeBron James in the city of Angels.
