LA Rams managed to increase stock despite finally looking human
By Jason Reed
The LA Rams narrowly escaped out of CenturyLink Field with a 33-31 over the Seattle Seahawks, cementing themselves as the NFL’s best team in the process.
The LA Rams may have won in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks but did not put together as dominant of a performance as some may have expected. The Rams entered the game, in Seattle nonetheless, favorited by more than a touchdown.
The Rams narrowly beat the Seahawks by just two points in the team’s first real nail-biter of the season. Before the game, if I told you the Rams only beat an Earl Thomas-less Seahawks team by two you would have been disappointed.
However, despite finally looking human against a team that really has no business beating them, the LA Rams managed to increase their stock as the NFL’s best team.

The Rams are beaten up and that is a big reason why the Seattle Seahawks had so much success. Defensively, the Rams have not looked great the last two weeks, mostly due to the injuries on the defensive side of the ball.
Aqib Talib is on the injured reserve after suffering a high-ankle sprain and Marcus Peters suffered a calf injury that he could still be dealing with. You could tell that something was bugging Peters, who really had a poor showing against Seattle.
Sam Shields left the contest with a shoulder injury and both Cooper Kupp and Brandin Cooks are now on concussion protocol.
Kicker Greg Zuerlein has been out, which has had a much bigger impact than some may have expected and All-Pro returner Pharoh Cooper has been on the IR since his ankle injury in Week 1.
That is a lot of big hits to take and yet the LA Rams were still able to go into a very tough atmosphere in Seattle and come away with a close victory. For as much as the defense struggled, it came up late in the game when it mattered most.
The offense stepped up as well in place of Kupp and Cooks. Robert Woods had a big game and the Rams turned to Todd Gurley, who finished the game with 77 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Most teams would crumble after being faced with this problem. While it would not have been indicative of the Rams entire season, it would have been an eye-opener that even the best team in the NFL can be derailed with injuries.
However, despite looking more than human in Week 5, Sean McVay made a gutsy call on fourth and short that won the game. He trusted his offense, even when it was missing two huge targets.
The LA Rams are going to find a way to win, no matter the circumstances. Having that determination, mixed with the most talented roster in the league, is a great formula for success.
