The parallels between the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots
Seventeen years ago a 24-year-old Tom Brady and 49-year-old Bill Belichick defeated the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI and kickstarted the most dominant sports dynasty since the Bill Russell Celtics.

Now, with four more Super Bowl wins and seven more Super Bowl appearances under their belt, the same young quarterback and newly successful head coach are exactly the monster that they were staring at in 2002.
While the St. Louis Rams were not the 2019 New England Patriots, they were in the closing years of The Greatest Show on Turf in which they were the best team in the NFL and one of the best offenses ever in the NFL.
The Patriots are now that dominant team, on a much higher scale. The team that won’t go to sleep, won’t go away and present the toughest matchup in the NFL, despite the roster not being as deep as before.
The Los Angeles Rams are the 2001-2002 New England Patriots and it is only fitting that it is the same team that kickstarted the Patriots dynasty. Many people think that a win over the Rams will serve as the bookend of the Patriots dynasty, as the Rams also served as the beginning.
However, that will not be the case. The story of Super Bowl LIII won’t be the Patriots’ dynasty ending, it will be the start of the Los Angeles Rams dynasty.
There is no reason to think that the Rams cannot start a dynasty. Goff is young, McVay is always going to be a great coach and most of the core is locked down for several years and have age on their side.
All the Rams need is a competent front office that lets McVay work his magic similar to Belichick in New England and before you know it we might have a 41-year-old Jared Goff starting right back at a young quarterback in the Super Bowl.
Nobody expected the New England Patriots to be the most dominant dynasty in football history 17 years ago.
