3. Scooter Gennett

Scooter Gennet was a player that many Dodger fans wanted the team to trade for at the beginning of the offseason. Gennett had a breakout season last year and was in the last year of his contract.

More from LA Sports Hub

It seemed to make sense for the Reds to trade Gennett as they would be getting multiple years of promise (prospects) in return for one year of Gennett. However, instead, the Reds decided to go all-in on one year and traded for the Dodgers’ expiring contracts.

Probably not the deal that Dodger fans had in mind when it was reported that the two sides were exploring trades.

Gennett would be an option for the Dodgers if Max Muncy does indeed regress and there is no long-term plan at second base. Like with adding Arenado and moving Turner to second, this could prolong the Dodgers one year in bringing up Gavin Lux.

However, in this instance, Lux would be brought up to be a shortstop. Corey Seager has always been regarded as more of a third baseman and that transition could improve his defense.

If Seager is a capable defender at third and Lux is the better fielder at short, why not make the transition?

The only potential downfall of Lux is that he is left-handed and the Dodgers are left-handed heavy. Lux is left-handed as well, which would give the Dodgers an all left-handed infield.

But still, Gennett proved in 2018 that he can be one of the best second basemen in the game and is worth exploring for a cheaper cost than Arenado or Cole.
