Los Angeles Dodgers: Grading every significant move of the offseason

4. Signing A.J. Pollock to a five-year, $60 million contract: B-
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ last move and most significant of the offseason was signing former rival A.J. Pollock to a five-year deal worth $60 million. This was not the former all-star outfielder that some fans were expecting and naturally led to there being a lot of backlash about the deal.

Personally, I still do not love the deal. The things that Pollock seemingly brings to the Dodgers are offset by other factors. However, I am willing to remain open to let Pollock prove me wrong about my doubts.
The idea that he has hit southpaws great is flawed as he hit in the .220s last season against left-handed pitching. He rarely seems to stay healthy as well, which can hurt the Dodgers down the stretch.
To Pollock’s credit, though, most of the time that he misses is usually in the summer and the most games that he has played out of any month is in September and the one series that usually trails into October.
To make Pollock’s case stronger, he is a .277 hitter in the closing month with an .830 OPS, 21 home runs and 69 RBIs in 143 games.
If Pollock can be an impact in October, then his contract will undoubtedly be worth it. However, the Dodgers also run the risk of Pollock being a non-factor and continuing his injury-prone ways.
This move has the most variance of all the moves. It could realistically either be a total bomb and the lowest F you can give or can be spectacular and be an A++.
We will give the Los Angeles Dodgers the benefit of the doubt and give them an 80 percent on this signing.
