Los Angeles Lakers: Buyout options better than Carmelo Anthony

3. Taj Gibson, PF

Taj Gibson is not yet bought out and is still a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, so this one is a bit tricky. The Los Angeles Lakers obviously cannot sign someone who has not yet been bought out by his team.

More from LA Sports Hub

And it might be a little while before the Timberwolves to make that move. At 25-30, Minnesota is five games out of the playoff picture and has realistic hopes of getting in. As the end of the year gets closer though and it becomes more apparent that the team will not make the postseason, Gibson becomes a prime candidate to be bought out.

At a certain point, it would help the Timberwolves more to lose than to win and the team might even buy out the veteran out of pure respect to let him sign with a contender. The Lakers did not buy Corey Brewer out until March last year and it is not too late for Minnesota to buyout Gibson.

Adding a veteran like Gibson that can give the same kind of depth at forward as Morris would be huge for the Los Angeles Lakers. Gibson can more than hold his own as the second-best power forward on the team and could be a spark for the team off the bench in the postseason.

Not only is Gibson still a contributor but his veteran experience would be huge for the Lakers. Los Angeles obviously has some veterans with NBA Title experience on the roster but having another experienced guy to turn to off the bench is huge in the postseason.

We all know how much LeBron-led teams like to bring in veterans for the postseason and Gibson is no exception. He would be a nice addition to the team and perhaps the Lakers just hold off and wait for Gibson to be bought out.

If April rolls around and he is still not bought out then the team can take a chance on Melo, assuming he is still available.

Next. Why its okay that LA missed out on AD. dark

I would still rather hold off and hope Gibson gets bought out than jump the gun and sign Carmelo Anthony.
