Why the Los Angeles Rams would do it:

This trade would mean the Los Angeles Rams would be without a first-round pick in the NFL Draft for the third consecutive year. That might seem like something to panic about but this trade is not all that bad whatsoever.

More from LA Sports Hub

The Rams should be one of the front-running candidates for Olivier Vernon, who it was just announced is being shopped by the New York Giants. Vernon was a Pro Bowler in 2018 and has been very good for the Giants over the last three seasons.

He is not worth a first-round pick alone so the Rams would be getting the Giants’ second-round pick as well. The thing with that is the Rams would only be moving down six selections from the 31st overall pick, which is not that bad.

It might not seem like it is favorable for the Giants but it does make sense for New York if there is someone that they are high on with the 31st overall pick. A lot can happen in six spots and those six spots are valuable.

Plus, Vernon will likely get a second-round pick at most on the market because of his cap hit. Here, while the Rams are only moving down six spots, they are letting the Giants move up six spots while also throwing in a third-round pick. That is not too bad if you ask me.

Vernon would instantly fit into the defense and rush the quarterback alongside Aaron Donald.

Yes, his contract is pretty notable and he has just two years left it but it is still a move that the Los Angeles Rams should explore making.
