2. JaVale McGee

The other player that the Los Angeles Lakers should undoubtedly be trying to re-sign this summer is none other than JaVale McGee. McGee has probably been the best out of all of the free agents the Lakers signed last summer and has earned another year in the purple and gold.

More from LA Sports Hub

McGee has championship experience and is not going to get much money anywhere he goes. Despite his strong play, McGee is likely going to only get the veteran minimum. Playing for a contender is the important thing for McGee.

And while the Lakers were not contenders this season McGee could re-sign with the promise of another superstar. With the Golden State Warriors potentially losing Kevin Durant, winning the Western Conference is suddenly much easier with a second star.

That veteran minimum is also important for the Lakers as the team can sign McGee even if the salary is backed up to the cap. If the team does the unthinkable and adds both Davis and Irving, adding a veteran minimum guy like McGee is a must-have.

McGee has the best offensive rating (116) of any Laker that has played over 1,000 minutes this season (yes, that includes LeBron James) while also having the best defensive rating (105).

While those numbers might seem a bit misleading, the Lakers need size and a rim protector and McGee has been able to play well in that role this season.

Next. Lakers might have a two superstar plan. dark

He has thrived alongside LeBron James this season and has proven that he deserves a new contract after the year. The Los Angeles Lakers would be foolish to let him walk.
