3. Taylor Rapp, S, Washington

If you go back through our articles pertaining to the Los Angeles Rams and the 2019 NFL Draft you will see that we have called Taylor Rapp a nice fit for the Rams. However, that was before the team signed Eric Weddle.

More from LA Sports Hub

The Rams agreed to a two-year contract with the veteran safety right after he had been released by the Baltimore Ravens. While Weddle is getting up there in age, he was a Pro Bowler over the last three seasons and will be average at the very worst for the Los Angeles Rams.

That signing is not stopping Rapp from being a nice fit in some people’s eyes, and with this one, we are staying in our network! Brad Weiss of FanSided, which is obviously our parent site, has Rapp going 31st overall to the Rams.

Rapp certainly is talented, is worth a first-round selection and would be a great fit for the Rams if they did not already have Weddle. There is no door open next to Weddle, either, as John Johnson proved last year that he is more than capable of being an every-down starting safety.

There really is no point in using a first-round pick on a rotational guy that might get slightly more playing time than Johnson and will be a starter in a few years. Rapp is probably better than Johnson, but the upgrade is not large enough to warrant a first-round pick.

Like with cornerback, there are bigger needs on the Rams and the team can even let the safety situation play out for two entire seasons before drafting a first-round safety to replace Weddle.

It would not be overly concerning to see the Rams select Rapp, as it might be with the other two, but the team definitely can go a much better route than the safety route.
