The Los Angeles Lakers were thoroughly defeated by the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night and spawned speculation about Kevin Durant in the process.

The Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Golden State Warriors for the last time on Thursday night and were thoroughly routed by the defending Champs, 108-90.

It is no surprise, either, as the team that the Lakers fielded looked more like a G League team than it did a professional basketball team. The only somewhat notable player that is actually under contract after this season and is not a G League talent was Moritz Wagner, who still hardly got playing time on the team.

The biggest takeaways from this game are not how the Lakers nor the Warriors played. Laker fans are practically already checked out on this season and looking forward to the offseason and Warriors fans are bored until the NBA Finals.

More from LA Sports Hub

The biggest takeaways have to do with this summer and revolve around Kevin Durant, LeBron James and you guessed it, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Durant made a comment in the post-game presser that practically the entire Lakers team was not playing (which is true), and that is why the Warriors jumped out to a massive start. That kind of sympathy from Durant about the Lakers got the gears moving for some people.

However, the biggest exchange of the night was after the game when LeBron and Durant had a conversation with their mouths covered. If you have followed LeBron’s path to the Lakers closely, you will remember that this is the exact same thing he did with Lonzo Ball as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.

LeBron later revealed that he gave Ball some words of encouragement to be himself and dictate his own future.

That exchange has not gone unnoticed and there are legitimate outlets pondering what the conversation was about. Mark Medina of the Mercury News is wondering what they talked about, Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report wrote an entire article about how Durant said the conversation wasn’t even that serious.

The NBA conspiracy theorists are not taking Durant’s words as the stone cold truth and the idea of him joining the Los Angeles Lakers this summer has, at least, been somewhat reignited.

Which is just absolutely silly. This is not a sign that Durant is coming to the Laker, Durant will never be a Laker and quite frankly he should have no desire to ever want to be a Laker.

Why would Durant leave the Golden State Warriors, who are legitimately in the conversation for the greatest dynasty of all time, to go play in LeBron’s shadow in LA? He would be jumping from one shadow to the next and would be doing so by joining a worse team.

Some would argue that he would not be in LeBron’s shadow as he might have even already surpassed the king in terms of talent. And while you could make the case for his talent, anyone that plays with LeBron is in his shadow. He is the most famous and polarizing American athlete in the world and is the center point of anything that he is involved in.

dark. Next. Zubac trade gave us an offseason hint

Save the “Kevin Durant going to the Lakers” talk for NBA 2K. It is not something that is ever going to escape this hypothetical reality.
